Medical-Grade*, Air Purification Systems (APS)

 Note:  All AirShield™ APS now have microprocessor digital pad controls &  meet the RoHS, Article 95, Green equipment initiative! 

“Medical-Grade” Defined

·         In 1999, Medical Air Solutions created and defined the phrase medical-grade for healthcare air purification systems. The definition:  An air purification device that is individually tested with a laser particle counter to confirm a 99.99+% total system efficiency.  Additionally, the unit shall be tested to confirm actual CFM delivery with all air filters (stages or elements) in place. Patient comfort is a concern so each system is tested for actual dBA and dB @ 6 ft. and recorded.  Each unit is delivered with a certificate showing its confirmed total system efficiency, air delivery and dBA.  Many now use the term medical-grade without individual testing or providing the certificate required confirming the product as truly being “medical-grade” by this definition.  Medical-grade is the highest grade or classification given to any air purification system, including such classifications as; pharmaceutical-grade, or surgical-grade.

Specialized Air Handling Units

 Medical Air Solutions can now provide custom designed air handling units (AHU) for any application, but we specialize in providing Mini-AHU’s which are designed to protect against a biological or chemical terrorist attack. Additionally, many hospital emergency departments are contaminated with diesel fumes from standing emergency vehicles.  This condition can be remedied with our Mini-AHU’s. The entire department, wing or even floor of a hospital can be made either positive or negative pressure dependent upon circumstances required.   Critical areas such as emergency rooms, 911 call centers, police and fire command/control centers, government emergency management control centers and other areas of critical infrastructure can be protected from these types of contamination problems including naturally occurring epidemics.  These specialized AHU systems cost far less than conventional major manufacturers of AHU systems and with more filtration technology.  Contact MAS for more information.

Unitee Ceiling Systems can be used in any retail, commercial or public space where steel tees or other unsealed extruded aluminum ceiling products would be installed. The standard finish for Unitee Series is B12 White Powder Coat.

A major feature of Unitee Series is that it can be easily removed and reinstalled providing access to the plenum space. Occasionally mechanical or electrical equipment fail requiring large areas of the ceiling to be removed. Some applications require that the entire ceiling be removed for cleaning the plenum space above the ceiling. Unitee Series uses the Price two-piece Universal Assembly Clips which allow the grid to be easily removed and reinstalled.

CORAD™ Systems

Complete Operating Room Air Delivery Systems

Medical Air Solutions has developed three (3) CORAD systems for surgical suites.  Each system is designed for the ascending classes as defined in the AIA (2003) “Guidelines for Design and Construction of Hospitals and Health Care Facilities”.  The definitions of these classes are:

Class A (formerly Class XX)

"Provides for minor surgical procedures performed under topical, local or regional anesthesia without pre-operative sedation.  Excluded are intravenous, spinal and epidural routes; these methods are appropriate for Class B and Class C facilities."

Class B (formerly Class V)

"Provides for minor or major surgical procedures performed in conjunction with oral, parenteral or intravenous sedation or under analgesic or disocclusive drugs."

Class C (formerly Class I)

"Provides for major surgical procedures that require general or regional block anesthesia and support of bodily functions."

The CORAD systems are designed to significantly reduce the threat of secondary (nosocomial) infections by continuously providing ultra-pure HEPA (99.99%) filtered air over the sterile field via vertical laminar flow diffusers that provide a very high volume of air at very low velocity.  These systems are a step above the older linear slot wall diffusers which provide horizontal air flow that can, by induction, move pathogens from the outer perimeter of the surgical suite into the air flow area of the sterile field.

All systems provide for the monitoring of positive pressure in the O.R. which is an absolute necessity in maintaining a protective environment.  Our CORAD B and CORAD C also incorporate indirect upper room ultraviolet germicidal irradiation that kills or deactivates pathogens in the upper room atmosphere while not putting staff or the patient in the direct path of the UVC.
